LIÒN – A Luxury Restaurant And Cocktail Bar In The Heart Of Rome
We bring you a luxury restaurant hidden in plain sight located in the heart of Rome. Designed by COLLIDANIELARCHITETTO, a Rome-based architecture firm, and housed on the ground floor of a 1930s pile in Piazza Navona, this luxury restaurant barely announces itself to passing traffic, this despite the impressive façade and broad windows bordered in thick travertine.
Inside a historic building, the architect and interior designer Daniela Colli has transformed the mood by weaving an intense tapestry of textures and colors. The space and furnishings are teal, turquoise and red, vivid colors that are in perfect harmony. The lines are bold and soft and the prevailing shape in this interior design project is the circle.
Sinuous and dynamic lines characterize the interiors of this luxury restaurant: from the thin arched decorations to the three-dimensional diamond screens of the teal boiserie, to the curves of the supports of the diamond bottle rack hanging over the counter. Theluxury furniture is tailor-made and enriched by thin metal structures frame colorful transparent elements such as the discs hanging over theblack marble dining tables.
The contemporary restaurant spreads over two levels: the ground floor, with the dining tables and theluxury bar area, has large windows with travertine frames, a typical detail of Roman fascist architecture, that can be opened during warm seasons, offering the possibility of having lunch or dinner in the open air. A precious marble staircase with brass details leads to the basement level.
The use of stained glass in this luxury restaurant is an architectural decoration that dates back to the early 20th century, here with a contemporary twist. The use of geometric shapes and primary colors are inspired by the research of Frank Lloyd Wright, a master of 20th century American architecture. Two columns, clad with turquoise mosaic tiles, flank the long counter in milled brass, making the interiors even more precious. Liòn is a luxury restaurant that combines fine cuisine with curated interiors.
By comparison, chef Luca Ludovici’s classical Italian menu is a model of almost staid restraint, the number of ingredients in each dish confined where possible to three materia prima – for instance, organic rice with red prawns, bourbon bisque and tarragon, and a Fassona beef tartare hit with a turmeric mayonnaise.
