Lighting design is really important and this modern restaurant is proof. Located in Mexico at Citibanamex center, this luxury restaurant designed by Almazán y Arquitectos Asociados, Concepto Taller de Arquitectura and Pin Studio makes reference to the 2014 sci-fi movie.
Inspired by otherworldly places and the captivating mystery of undiscovered planets, the design teams’ main objective was to ‘convert the void into content, intertwining time and space in order to create a visually spectacular environment.’ They did it with the amazing lighting design!

They wanted a space the diner could enjoy an experience ‘outside this world.’ For that fine dining experience, they decorated the undulating walls and ceiling with more than 250,000 LEDs. This lighting design immerses diners in a glittering starry sky in contrast with the black interior.
To help the lighting design, the mirrored dining tables also emphasize the experience, allowing guests to see the reflections of the thousands of lights as they eat.
The contemporary restaurant measures 200 m2 in area. But it’s more than just stars that give homage to the sci-fi blockbuster. True fans are sure to recognize a particular piece of furniture: the standout bookshelf in the dining hall, surrounded by flying books suspended in mid-air. Giving the impression of anti-gravity, the modern restaurant was also designed on the occasion of the Millesime Mexico 2019, an annual gastronomic festival that has taken place in Mexico since 2007.
