Manuela – Discover This Fine Dining Experience Filled By Art
Modern Dining Tables brings you a fine dining experience provided by Manuela, a contemporary restaurant in Los Angeles. At Manuela, chef Kris Tominaga’s eatery inside Hauser & Wirth, walls are lined with works by Mark Bradford, Raymond Pettibon, and Paul McCarthy.
The effortlessly casual space is studded with high-end artwork that rotates often, while the pricey digs give way to smoked meats and plenty of down-home flairs.
The interior design of this modern restaurant is right in line with Whitsell’s heritage, having lived for much of his life in rural North Texas. Rustic marble and brass touch run up against scores of old wood and big glass panes, crafting a dining space that feels lived-in but timeless. A half-dozen counter seats look into the massive open kitchen beyond, complete with a wood-fired grill, while the indoor-outdoor seating areas blend brick and wood with the open air. This is a modern Los Angeles fine dining experience, where casual matters.
Matt Winter of M Winter Design heralded in the 5,000 square foot space, which holds 140 diners at a time and extends into the gallery’s courtyard beyond. There are barstools and two-tops, banquettes and private fine dining experience, all collected around the kitchen for an immersive experience from anywhere in this unique restaurant.
The materials were largely sourced from the 1930’s era building itself, while much of the rest was pulled from warehouses in the Arts District and given new life. “We tried to use reclaimed materials, but refine them,” says Winter, “We resurfaced and recut everything to bring out the best in the materials themselves, and show this juxtaposition between the polished space and these old-world elements.”
Located in the Arts District of Los Angeles, Manuela unites chefs, farmers, and artists to create an authentic and original fine dining experience. Under the direction of Executive Chef Kris Tominaga, the menu celebrates seasonal ingredients sourced from the best farms and producers in Southern California.
Tominaga runs the kitchen at Manuela, located inside Hauser & Wirth. His fine cuisine mixes southern Gulf Coast flavors with California’s seasonal, farm-fresh fare. Adding a true locavore element to the menu is the vegetable garden and chicken coop that are part of the space.
The influences are evident on the menu with dishes such as barbecued oysters and deviled eggs along with delicata squash served with Cloumage farm cheese—all dishes that look delicious.
