Be inspired by the most luxury bars in the world from New York to Tokyo. We selected some beautiful bars from the World’s 50 best bars list and we guarantee that there you can drink like loyalty. To help you make the most of your evenings whilst travelling the globe, here are some of the world’s luxury bars for you.
Mondrian Bar, London
If being considered the best requires meeting the highest of standards, it also requires surpassing them. The innovative Dandelyan, winner of The World’s Best Bar Award, sponsored by Perrier, has done that in just about all measures of the bar experience.
Looking out to London’s South Bank and St Paul’s Cathedral, this modern bar is the bar of Mondrian London and the creative work of bartending pioneers Ryan Chetiyawardana and Iain Griffiths. It manages to be high-end but accessible – trendy pink, green and gold interior design décor, relaxed but emotionally intelligent service and cocktails that make you think.
Manhattan Bar at Regent Hotel, Singapore
As entrances go, the walk up to the luxury bar is about as regal as it gets. It oozes chic from every fold in its glorious soft furnishings and Chesterfield armchairs, inviting you to settle in and marvel at what is the Best Bar in Asia, sponsored by Hennessy.
Manhattan’s charm comes from a perfect balance of impeccable American hotel bar-inspired service and a desire to innovate on its own terms. The purpose-built ‘rickhouse’ contains more than 100 small casks, each with a different cocktail inside, gently resting and developing more exquisite flavour, while the American Whiskey Embassy is a collection of more than 200 rare bourbons, ryes and craft whiskeys.
American Bar at The Savoy Hotel, London
The American Bar at the Savoy in London is a monument to mixed drinks, its classical status hard-earned over nearly 130 years of serving the great and the good.
Since taking the title of World’s Best Bar in 2017, much-loved head bartender Erik Lorincz has departed, but his legacy remains. Entitled Every Moment Tells a Story, the menu takes inspiration from the famed celebrity photography of Terry O’Neil, which has long been a feature of the bar. The cocktails that draw inspiration from each photo are themselves a snapshot of the calibre of expertise always present in a contemporary bar that never grows old, only better.
NoMad Bar at NoMad Hotel, New York City
The NoMad bar, set in the mid-town New York hotel of the same name, is in The World’s 50 Best Bars top 10 for the third year straight. What sets this top bar aside from other luxury bars is its fresh take on classic, specifically taking inspiration from New York City taverns.
The informally referred-to Elephant Bar is where you’ll likely enter and, with its golds, greens and dark woods, it has a sultry, luxurious feel. The modern bar drifts into the Library, so named because of the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and leather upholstery. Wherever you are in New York’s foremost hotel bar, expect flawless hospitality. The Nomad Bar is named Best Bar in North America, sponsored by Michter’s Distillery.
Old Man Bar, Hong Kong
The Old Man is a bijou bar. Just over one year old (winning the Highest New Entry Award, sponsored by Torres), the stylish, intimate establishment impresses both with its drinks and décor, inspired – as the name suggests – by American novelist Ernest Hemingway and his love of a good cocktail.
Head bartender Agung Prabowo has concocted a menu of nine experimental cocktails (each named after a work by the author) that play off the classics and are based on Hemingway’s favourite ingredients, spirits and even culinary flavours, such as capra fat-washed applejack and bamboo sous-vide Americano bianco.
High Five Bar, Tokyo
Hidetsugu Ueno’s High Five turned 10 years old in the summer of 2018 and, though so much has changed over the years, everything that makes it one of The World’s 50 Best Bars is solidly intact.
Ueno is the master of technique who changes his shake and his shaker according to the cocktail. He’s the man without a menu who will make you one of his legendary White Ladies if you like, or discuss some parameters and concoct something unexpected.
High Five is an essential stop on the global cocktail tour and a fixture on this list, so it’s become the most international bar in the neighbourhood with trilingual staff serving a united nations of visitors.
